Practice Areas

Commercial Law

The  commercial law practice encompasses a broad spectrum of legal services aimed at supporting businesses and individuals in navigating commercial transactions and disputes. This includes providing legal advice and written opinions on a variety of commercial issues, drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements, ensuring regulatory and statutory compliance, and assisting with risk assessment in commercial dealings. The practice also involves representing clients in pre-litigation matters, handling commercial litigation before courts and tribunals, and pursuing or defending appeals arising from such disputes. The approach is rooted in a careful analysis of applicable law and a pragmatic understanding of commercial realities.

Constitutional and Administrative Law

The constitutional and administrative law practice focuses on matters involving the relationship between individuals and the state, as well as the legality of administrative action. This includes advising on and preparing judicial review and writ applications, petitions asserting violations of fundamental rights, and applications before administrative tribunals such as the AAT. The practice also involves providing reasoned legal opinions on constitutional questions and administrative procedures, with attention to statutory interpretation, procedural fairness, and the broader framework of public law.

Construction Law

The construction law practice offers end-to-end legal support for construction projects, with a focus on both advisory and dispute-related services. This includes drafting, reviewing, and advising on construction contracts, including those based on FIDIC and CIDA SBDs, as well as providing legal opinions and risk assessments at various project stages. The practice extends to all forms of construction dispute resolution, including claims preparation and defence, dispute adjudication boards (DAB), arbitration (domestic and international), and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation and negotiated settlements. Where necessary, the chamber also handles litigation arising from construction disputes.

Arbitration

The arbitration practice encompasses a full range of services in both domestic and international arbitration, covering institutional proceedings under established rules as well as ad hoc arbitrations. The practice includes advising and representing clients through all stages of arbitration, from initiation to final award, with a focus on effective case strategy and procedural compliance. It also involves post-award proceedings, including applications for enforcement of arbitral awards and challenges to awards through set-aside proceedings before courts. Where applicable, the chamber handles appellate matters arising from arbitral processes, maintaining a consistent approach grounded in legal rigour and a clear understanding of arbitral frameworks.

Employment Law

The employment law practice provides comprehensive legal services across the full range of labour and industrial law matters. This includes advisory work and legal opinions on employment law, drafting and reviewing employment contracts, and advising on disciplinary action and domestic inquiries. The practice includes appearance before the Labour Tribunal, Labour Arbitration, and the Industrial Court, and handling appeals from Labour Tribunal decisions. It also represents clients in proceedings before the Commissioner General of Labour. Where necessary, the practice extends to writ applications and judicial review in the superior courts.

Civil Appeals

The civil appellate practice provides civil appellate work before the Civil Appellate High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, encompassing a wide range of subject areas arising from first instance civil proceedings. This includes drafting and settling petitions of appeal, and written submissions, preparing for and conducting oral argument, and advising on appellate strategy. The practice covers both interlocutory and final appeals, as well as leave to appeal and speacial leave applications where required. Emphasis is placed on careful review of the trial record, identification of appealable issues, and the development of clear, well-reasoned arguments suited to the appellate forum.
